"Dustan. . . we shouldn't"
"Oh, it'll be all right, Ara. You're with me anyway. Don't worry, i've gotcha." He winked at her but his reassurance did not help her anxiety. They were going to get caught, she knew it. And when they did her father would punish her severely.
Yet here she was, crouched in the bushes with her only friend, Dustan. The blue of his eyes gleaming with joy and amusement as he watched the men load their truck with the stolen goods.
"Ok. . . go!" A heavy sigh sounded from her as she took her cue. She shifted from her human form to her wolf and dashed forward to the scene. The men shouted in alarm when the saw her massive form.
"Oh, God!" She heard one of them begin to pray, in spanish it seemed, while the other scrambled away from the vehicle.
"Woo! You got 'em Ara!" Dustan exclaimed as he stepped out of the shadows to examine their new prize.
She shook and huffed at him when he began to shift through it.
"Oh. . fine. You get first pick." She shook her head as she nuzzled the backpack he wore.
"Oh! Right. Sorry." He shrugged it off and scavenged through its contents to retrieve her clothing. Once out, she took them carefully between her jaws and moved behind the car to shift and dress once more.
"I swear Dustan," She grunted once she was in her human form again. "I don't know why I let you talk me into these things."
He popped out around the corner of the truck and smiled, "Because you love me."
"Dustan!" Growling, she picked up a stray rock and tossed it at him as hard as she could. Of course, he moved away just in time. . .stupid demon breed.
When she walked out from the shadows he was smiling like an idiot.
"One of these days. . ."
"I will have a mate whom will kick your ass every time you bother me." He finished for her. "You tell me that every time we do one of these type of things. Ara, I don't doubt that one day you will find that 'special' guy. But. . . until then, learn to fend for yourself."
Yea. . . I know. . she thought as she silently kicked at the pavement, but she shook her head.
"Nah, its just a fantasy, you know more than anyone I will never find happiness. Not with . . . him. I just like to say it to piss you off." She fiend a playful smile and slugged him on the shoulder. What hopes she had for the future were just that, hopes. Ara knew deep down, that was yet another freedom stripped from her, only another weakness thrust upon her by her step father. Her gaze turned towards the direction of her beloved sanctuary.
"I'll let you get to your fun. See you later Dustan."
He knew fully well where she was going, and knew better than to argue with her so he merely nodded and offered her a sad smile, knowing all too well what "later" meant.
